REDTAILS SPLASH REQUIREMENTS

10 rhythmic bobs in chest deep water

Jump from side into deep water
-
Kneel dive from side
-
Swim underwater 3 body lengths

Back float in deep water for 1 minute
-
Treading water using modified scissor, breaststroke or rotary kick & sculling motions for 1 minute

Front crawl 25 yards with rotary breathing to the side

Back crawl 25 yards
-
Submerge and retrieve object in chest deep water

Flutter kicking on front & back in horizontal position
-
Flutter kick on side
-
Willing to participate in swim meets

These are just rough guidelines and ultimately it is coach’s discretion as to whether he/she feels the child is ready or not.

Comfortable swimming without an instructor in the water in the deep end.
This is the end of level 3/beginning level 4 rec center classes and is a loose estimation as city teachers will vary as to what they feel is level 3/level 4.
